Interesting Dealing With A Partners Controlling Mother

January 2, 2014 By admin

Dealing With A Partners Controlling Mother

In a perfect world, everyone would have mothers that knew when to let go of their babies. However, it’s not a perfect world and there are many more of these controlling mothers around than you would have ever thought possible. That’s why the chances are really good that when you hook up with someone romantically, you’re going to also be taking on his very controlling mother.
Now, it’s not all bad. In fact, some mothers aren’t really controlling so much as they really do just want their sons to be happy.

With those mothers, you’ve got a chance because, while they might be a bit distant initially, once they see that you adore their “little boy,” they’ll warm right up to you because the two of you have a common goal. All you have to do is show this mother that you do, indeed, love her son and she’ll become your best friend.

Next up are the controlling mothers that feel no woman is good enough for their sons. It wouldn’t matter if you came from royalty and are next in line for the throne. Unless these women have personally handpicked the women for their sons to be with, it’s pretty much a lost cause. Now, if you’re lucky, your guy will understand that his mother is unreasonable and he’ll be the buffer between the two of you. If you’re lucky, he may even agree to move to another state so that you don’t have to be around her and her dislike of you all the time.

The worst of these controlling mothers are something like you probably have never encountered at any point in your life. These women will do anything to keep their sons with them because their belief is that no one on this planet can look after their sons as well as they can. Nothing you do is ever going to be good enough or right, for that matter. Worst of all, she will expect to be included in all parts of your life. If your man can’t say no to her, she’ll be going with you on all trips you take. Every time you and your man have Date Night, she’ll tag along. You’ll probably find her at YOUR house more than at her own. Hopefully, your partner isn’t “mommy whipped” so that he can set boundaries for her and make her keep to them.

The signs are usually there soon enough so that you’re don’t get involved with a guy that’s overly attached to his mother. When you spot them, just cut your losses and run. On the other hand, if you had no warning that you’re inheriting one of these horrible women by getting involved with what you thought was a great guy; you may experience some pain before extricating yourself from the situation. If she’s being unreasonable and trying to act like his wife, attempt to have a talk with him about it. Tell him how that you feel as if you’re married or involved with BOTH of them and that you’re not happy with the arrangement.

She may end up not being an entity you can battle. If that turns out to be true, then the only solution may be to move across the country from her. However, if your man seems unwilling to cut those apron strings, you may just have to walk.

Get Your Feelings Out

One of the most harmful personality traits in a relationship is that of passive aggressiveness. A person with passive aggressive tendencies hides their feelings rather than discussing the problem and getting it out in the open. Instead of communicating with their partners honestly about what’s bothering them, a passive aggressive person will shut up their feelings, stop talking, glare, sulk, and generally put up a virtual stone wall. They refuse to talk and just let their resentment, hurt or anger dam up. They’re not going to show you just how much something is bothering them. Instead, they’ll pretend to be agreeable and friendly, like nothing is wrong.

Everyone shuts down sometimes. It’s not unusual to do that. However, the person that does this one hundred percent of the time will eventually erupt like a volcano once their emotions have reached the boiling point, or there’s simply no more room behind that dam for one more negative feeling. When this happens, you truly don’t want to be in the way of that outpouring of emotions or you could get hurt in the fallout.

Rather than use this passive aggressive behavior to handle things that you don’t like in your relationship, try opening up a bit more about the way you’re feeling. Communicating your thoughts and feelings in an honest way is the only way to actually resolve any problems that may be present in your relationship. When you hold in how you feel about something, the problem only becomes worse. Unresolved issues in any relationship can be their undoing, and when you go on pretending that everything is fine with you, you’re going to see just how much damage can be done to the relationship.

When your partner says or does something that hurts your feelings or makes you angry, don’t act like it is ok. That’s what a passive aggressive person does and it only makes things worse. All the while you’ve got this friendly smile plastered on your face, your feelings are seething on the inside and your blood is boiling. Holding all of that on the inside is akin to sweeping problems under the rug. There’s only so much room under that rug for problems to accumulate. Think of this when you start holding in your feelings as there also only so much room in there for your feelings. Eventually, that dam will burst and it won’t be pretty.

You may feel it’s better to hide your feelings rather than take a chance on an ugly confrontation or an upsetting scene of some sort. It may seem that you’re not hurting anyone by hiding the way you feel but, in the end, that’s not true. You’re hurting yourself, for one, and you’re also hurting your relationship. Each time that you let something pass that bothers you, it erodes the foundation of your relationship a little bit more.

Don’t let your relationship be ruined in this way. The only way to fix relationship problems is to talk them out. Resist the urge to be passive aggressive and communicate any issues you have with your partner. It is the only way to keep things alive.

Article 6 In The Series of Articles on Mending My Broken Heart

Surviving the Immediate Future

Once you get past the initial shock of the break up, you will still have a period of mourning. During this time, you have to toughen up. While you may have been able to indulge your self for a short time, now it is time to adjust to the new reality.

Take good care of yourself. While having a pint of Ben and Jerry’s felt good right after the break up, developing good eating habits is important now. You should also be exercising regularly. The endorphins that your body produces when you exercise will help improve your mood.

Don’t be afraid to cry when the mood strikes you. You are going to have ups and downs. But, don’t give in to a chronic state of depression.

Forgive your ex. At some point, you will have to forgive your ex for breaking your heart. You will also have to forgive him for any actions he took during the relationship which hurt you. The longer you hold anger toward him, the longer it will be before you can exit the break up mentality.

You should also ask him for forgiveness for any of the hurt you caused in the [rollinglinks]relationship[/rollinglinks]. This will allow you to cleanse.

Go out – even when you don’t feel like it. This can mean going out with your friends for social things. But it can also mean going out on dates with a new person. While you don’t want to enter into a hot and heavy rebound relationship, going out on dates will allow you to see yourself as an attractive catch. It will boost your self esteem at a time when you really need it. Go out on a date with someone you are not likely to fall in love with.

Socialize with your friends and reconnect with people who you have let go of. Many times, a [rollinglinks]relationship[/rollinglinks] dominates our lives and our other friends get squeezed out without us even knowing it. Go through your address book or email list and find people you haven’t talked to in a few months. Set up a time to go out for coffee.

Take up a new hobby or interest. If you always wanted to try toll painting, take a class. If your ex was a couch potato but you like the great outdoors, join a hiking group. Not only will your new activity take up some of the time left vacant from the termination of the relationship, you will also have the chance to meet new people.

Think about getting out of town for a few days. The change in scenery could be good for your soul.

You can also get a new hairstyle or do a wardrobe makeover. You don’t have to consider his preferences any more. It may be a good time to reinvent yourself.

Remember that healing takes time. You are going to have good days and bad.

Figure out what you were supposed to have learned from the relationship and then apply that to your life in the future.

Finally, believe that your ex did you a favor in the long term when he called it off. Your true soul mate is still out there waiting for you.

In the long term, you will begin to compartmentalize the experience. Your ex will become just another boyfriend. That will be one part of your life, but you will have many other parts.

Article 6 In The Series of Articles On From Breaking Up To Making Up

Don’t Try to Get Back Together

If it really is over, don’t spend your time or energy trying to get back together with your ex. Don’t vaccilate. Either you have a good thing that you want to repair – in which case you follow the advice outlined earlier in this report – or you want to call it quits.

Your mood shouldn’t shift from day to day. Don’t send text messages one day talking about the good times and then not answer your ex’s calls the next day.

If you are going to move on, take active steps to begin a new life. Reconnect with old friends and make new ones. Start to date again. Don’t center your life around your ex on a day by day basis.

Exchange Personal Property

In any long term relationship, people tend to “collect” things that belong to the other one. A woman might have his college sweatshirt for instance. You may have left things at each other’s houses. If you have broken up and are going to stay broken up, it’s time for a property exchange.

First of all, clean out your house of everything of your ex’s. There are three categories of items.

The first category is the things you want to give back. Don’t hold onto things he or she wants back “for sentimental reasons.” The less you have of his or hers, the less you will need to talk going forward.

The second category is the things that don’t warrant giving back. For instance, if he’s left a toothbrush at your place, it’s almost rude to box it up and give it to him. With these things, throw them away. There is no reason to remind yourself of him every time you open your medicine cabinet.

Finally, there is the category of things he or she wants you to keep. Generally, an ex isn’t going to want you to give him or her all of the gifts back that they ever gave you. In fact, they’ll want you to keep them to remind you of the special times you had.

But, you don’t want these things in your life – right now. Later, once the hurt has healed, you can bring them out and enjoy them again. But for now, box them up and put them in the top of your closet where you are not likely to find them on a daily basis.

Clearing Up Money Issues

It is not uncommon for a couple to have some money issues at the time of the break up. In some cases, this means sorting through joint checking and credit accounts. In other cases it is a matter of one party owing the other money.

BREAKING UP
BREAKING UP—Seth W (Flickr.com)

If you have some money issues, try to resolve them right away. Sort through your joint accounts. Get new bank accounts and transfer the agreed amounts of money into the separate accounts. If you have joint debt, get new credit cards and transfer the debt onto your separate accounts. Don’t keep the old accounts open either. Clearing up money issues is a key step in moving on.

So, what happens when one party owes the other one money and can’t pay it off right away? The best thing to do is to seek a loan from another source to pay it off. If you are constantly having to deal with weekly or monthly payments, you will have to be in contact with each other regularly which is something you don’t want. Additionally, the lender and debtor relationship can wreck havoc with the power balance in your post-romantic relationship. So, do what you can to get all balances settled.

If it doesn’t look like your ex is going to pay off his or her debt, write it off. Consider it a financial lesson learned.

The Art of Seduction

Dave met Karen at a bar. He approached her and she coyly rejected his initial advances. He bought her a drink and she agreed to dance. By the end of the evening, he had her phone number.

He called and she agreed to go out. Before the date, she spent a lot of time on her hair and make up. She bought a new outfit which showed off her body to its best advantage.

He came with flowers and took her to the nicest restaurant in town. He complimented her at every turn.

Things went really well and soon they were a couple. Dave continued to romance Karen by taking her on long walks on the beach at sunset and paying attention to the little details. Karen went out of her way to buy sexy lingerie and sent him coded text messages when she was apart from him.

On Valentine’s Day, Dave proposed by getting down on one knee. Karen accepted. An October wedding was planned.

Their first few months as a married couple were bliss. But, after a while, the “spark” seemed to go out. They still made love, but things got blasé. Sex became routine.

Then Karen got pregnant. Once little Molly was born, their lives changed dramatically. They were increasingly busy and sex became a secondary aspect to their relationship.

Karen never lost 10 pounds from her pregnancy and was too tired and busy to go to the gym.

Dave and Karen began to drift further and further apart. Finally, they went to a therapist for marriage counseling.

The therapist’s advice? “You need to seduce one another again.”

Dave and Karen thought that seduction was for people in the early stages of their relationships, not for people who had been married for four years or more. “I don’t even remember how to be seductive,” Karen said.

This series of articles is for people like Karen and Dave who have been married for a while and want to reconnect. Seduction is one of the best ways to do that.

How to Heighten Your Senses

Many people have never allowed themselves to be sensual. But, sensual people tend to be good lovers because they use their senses to heighten their awareness and their partner’s pleasure.

If you are not comfortable with seduction through sensuality, consider these tips:

• Awaken your senses by reveling in taste, smell, sight, touch and sound in all situations – not just romantic ones. Try experimenting with new food spices and flavors. Burn scented candles at work. Introduce new colors in your wardrobe, especially in accessories.

• Pay attention to your surroundings. Don’t miss the first buds or spring or the first leaves of autumn. Tak in the beauty of ice covered branches. Don’t be so busy rushing past to quickly to miss these experiences.

• Feel when you touch. When you shake hands with someone, take some time to really experience what it feels like. Run your hands across fabrics, the petals of flowers, and other everyday items to increase the sense of touch. When you do this, you will be able to concentrate on the touch of your lovers skin which enhances your sexuality.

When you do these simple exercises, you will feel more sensouous. This will also enliven your seductive skills.

How to Flirt With Your Partner

Flirting is practiced more by people who aren’t in relationship than those who are in them. But this is a shame because committed lovers can gain much from playing this traditional love game.

Some examples of flirting include smiles, direct eye contact and double entendres.

Flirting is not just about sex. It is also about feeling good about yourself and the other person. You let the other person know that he or she is attractive and desirable when you flirt. Flirting doesn’t have to lead to sex, it’s just a good way to connect.

When people are involved with and committed to each other, they often stop flirting out of a fear of rejection. They think they don’t need to do it anymore. If you recognize these resistances in yourself, you should try to overcome them.

Keychain on seduction
Keychain on seduction—LoveSystems (Flickr.com)

You can flirt in romantic settings such as a walk on the beach at sunset. You can also flirt when there is no opportunity for sex. This is a way to connect in “ordinary” situations such as standing in line at the movies or on the way out the door to work.

Flirting can include meaningful eye contact, touching, suggestive body language, asking sexy question or talking in whispers or coy teasing remarks and double meanings.

Don’t be shy about flirting in front of other people. Often, your friends will admire and envy you for the quality of your relationship.
